Cougars finish 4th in Cougar Classic

The Colleton County Cougar Basketball Classic was held December 21-22 and featured a four-team bracket, including the Cougars and Beaufort High School, Hanahan High School, and Branchville.

The Beaufort Eagles were crowned the champions following a 67-18 win over Branchville.

The Cougars were slated to face Branchville High School in game one, but the game was canceled due to COVID-19 precautions. The following day, Colleton County faced Hanahan for third place in the tournament. Playing short staffed with five varsity and three junior varsity players, Colleton County lost 59-57. Mykeem Gant led with 22 points and Deshaun Blocker added 14 points. Other scoring included Tyshawn Hundley with 10 points, L. Rivers with seven, S. Windfield with two, and M. Sanders with two.

The following players were named to the Cougar Classic All-Tournament Team: Mykeem Gant - Colleton County; Malik Harry - Hanahan High School; Ronnie Nester - Branchville High School; Sullen Gay - Beaufort Academy; and Amarion Wilson - Beaufort Academy (MVP).

Colleton County was scheduled to open Region VII-AAAA competition at home on Tuesday, January 4 against Hilton Head High School. They will then travel to Bluffton on Friday, January 7.
