The Colleton County Cougar varsity boys basketball team was eliminated from the Region VII-AAAA Post-Season Tournament in a 79-35 loss to Hilton Head Seahawks (13-2, 9-0). Colleton County finished the 2020-21 season 1-8 overall and 0-4 in conference play.

Silas Holmes led the Cougars on the boards, scoring 17 points. Antwan Griffin added 13 points. Other scoring included Brian Hamilton 2, Adam Buckner 2 and Mykeem Gant 1.

The Seahawks were led by McKracken with 13 points. Other scoring included Clark 12, Gilliam 10, Summa 8, Sneed 6, Smith 5, Campbell 5, Black 4, Rohr 3, Freaizier 3, and Larkby 2.

“This season has been challenging with no summer workouts, no preseason, quarantines, injuries, and dealing with the loss of Alex Sherrill,” said Coach Matthew Mullins. “It was definitely a year where we had to learn to deal with adversity. I want to say thank you to the seniors Silas Holmes, Antawn Griffin and Alston Sherrill for all the memories these last three years. It was a good group of student athletes that will do big things with their lives after high school. I look forward to watching them grow into young adults.”

As far as the future, Mullins has a plan. “Our underclassman will get some time off, then it is back to the weight room,” said Mullins. “We have got to approach this offseason with a workers attitude to get back to where we were the previous two years. The work we put in during the spring, summer, and fall will dictate our success in the 2021-2022 season and beyond. I am excited about embracing that process this offseason since we weren’t able to do it this past year with COVID restrictions.”
