The Colleton County Cougars dropped Region VII-AAAA games against Hilton Head High School (68-45) and Bluffton High School (69-61 OT) in their return to the court after Christmas break.
Against Hilton Head on Tuesday Jan. 5, Alston Sherrill scored 20 points to lead the Cougars in scoring. Silas Holmes added 17 points. Other scoring included Corey Frasier 3, Brian Hamilton 2, and Deshawn McNeil 2.

Hilton Head’s top scorers were Summa 18, Sneed 14 and McCrackin 13.
In a home match on Friday Jan. 8, the Cougars lost a heartbreaker in overtime against Bluffton High School. Silas Holmes scored 17 points and Deshaun Blocker added 13. Other scoring included Mykeem Gant 11, Brian Hamilton 8, Antawn Griffin 4, Mykeem Gant 4, and Temaj Butler 4.
Bluffton’s top scorers included Tr. Brown 17, N. Yanez 14, and E. Eastman 12.
“We started out really sloppy in the first quarter and struggled to score against their zone,” said Coach Matthew Mullins. “We knew they were going to play strong. We were not able to see any film on their personnel because they had only played two games due to Covid-19 cancellations. In the second quarter, we made defensive adjustments based on their personnel and it led to us making a comeback and pushing the game into overtime. Once we got into overtime, the ball just did not bounce our way. Number 25 for Bluffton got loose for a couple of threes.
“Dorian Gant played tremendous on the glass for us Friday night,” said Mullins. “Mykeem Gant had an injury down the stretch but was outstanding. Silas Holmes played hard and Antwan Griffin played tough through a nagging injury. I saw some bright spots for our freshmen Brian Hamilton and Mykeem Gant. We will keep battling and see what happens next week.”
