The Colleton County Cougar Wrestling team finished their regular season with a tri-match, which included Beaufort High School and Bluffton High School on Wednesday, January 26 at home. The Cougars fell 78-6 against Bluffton and 66-9 versus Beaufort.

“We were happy to be back at full strength,” said Coach Jaques Glover. “We had wrestlers Aaron Hayes (138) and Demar Bodison (220) back for the final match of the season. In the first match, Lashombre Johnson (113) wrestled tough, taking an 11-8 lead going into the second, but the lack of experience showed later in the match when he gave up a reversal, ultimately getting pinned. Johnson’s match set the tone for the rest of the bout, with only Gage Thomas getting a win.”

“We had to turn right around and wrestle Beaufort,” said Glover. “We were hoping to bounce back strong, but we came up short. Gage Thomas earned a win in a 6-5 decision and a forfeit was given to Avrial Portal.”

The Cougars were slated to compete in the SCHSL AAAA Region VII Individual Tournament on Saturday, January 29 in Beaufort. That occurred after this newspaper’s print deadline for this issue.
