Cougar Basketball opens regular season with a win

The Colleton County varsity basketball team opened their 2021-22 regular season with a dominating 67-40 win over the Low Country Wildcats on Monday, November 29 at home. The Cougars dropped a home game versus non-region opponent Woodland High School 60-45 on Friday, December 3 before earning a 71-40 win over Battery Creek High School on the road on Saturday, December 4.

In the win over the Low Country Wildcats, Mykeem Gant led on the boards with 17 points and Brian Hamilton added 14 points. Other scoring included Deshaun Blocker 9; Kenny Hand 5, Trey Fields 5; Adam Buckner 4; Dashawn McNeil; 4; Tyshawn Hundley 3; Jahmari Washington 2; and Cory Frasier 2.

The Wildcats were led by Templeton with 18 points and Maencha 12 points.

In the loss to Woodland High School, Gant led with 16 points. Other scoring included Washington 7; Hand 6; Buckner 5; Hamilton 4; Hundley 2; and McNeil 2.

Woodland was led by Middleton and Simmons, both scoring 11 points in the game.

Against Battery Creek, Adam Buckner, and Deshawn McNeil both scored 15 points and Deshaun Blocker added 14 points. Other scoring included Hundley 9; Williams 8; Hamilton 6, Fields 2; and Gant 2.

Battery Creek was led by Northway with 17 points and White 6 points.

The Cougars, off to a 2-1 start on the season, will host Academic Magnet on Wednesday, December 8, then travel to Woodland High School on Friday, December 10.
