Continuing With Jesus

So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.

Colossians 2:6-7

Countless people live their lives with no regard for spiritual matters because they repeated a prayer, got baptized, or filled out a card at church. Many churches taught that a one-time emotional experience was all that was needed. I apologize for this grave error. As a result, there are multitudes of people oblivious to the fact that they are unprepared for eternity and separated from the God who wants to save them. The Bible clearly teaches that God intends to have an ongoing personal relationship with each one of His children. God intends to be Lord of our life and change the way we live. I cannot find anywhere in the Bible that excuses a convert from neglecting an ongoing relationship with God. In fact, if you are truly converted and born-again, you won’t neglect that relationship with God.

Paul instructed the Colossian church to continue with Christ, just as they had received Him. In other words, this relationship will be a spiritual relationship pursued by faith. Paul says that this relationship doesn’t just begin with Jesus, but this relationship is about being built up in Him and being strengthened by Him. Are you growing closer to Christ? You need to be part of a church that is helping you grow closer to Jesus and helping you to take the next steps in maturity and discipleship.

Paul tells us that growing in Jesus has a result. He says that we will overflow with thankfulness. Does that describe your life? Do you need the joy, peace, strength, comfort and wisdom that Jesus gives? He loves you and invites you to follow Him.
