Keep Walterboro Beautiful held the Ribbon Cutting for its new Community Garden on May 16th. Officials of Walterboro and Colleton County cut the ribbon at the site located at the South Carolina Artisan Center. The garden was developed with a grant from the South Carolina Association for Community Economic Development, Clemson Cooperative Extension and the USDA. Father Newman Lawrence from St. Jude’s Church blessed the Garden before the ribbon cutting.
The Garden Manager is Monica Stacy, along with others have worked tirelessly to help get the garden ready to open.
Dana Cheney of Keep Walterboro Beautiful said, “The Community Garden is a project that I’ve been trying to get together for 10 years. We got a grant and spoke to David Smalls, Director of the Artisan Center, and he said do what you need to do. We’ve only got room for four or five more beds to fill. The Enchanted Garden is something that just happened, and that’s going to be for teaching children and adults.” They have a Facebook Page at Walterboro Community Garden.
