CPA Basketball has more hash marks in the “W” column fresh into the 2024-2025 basketball season. Going into the weekend of December 6th the Varsity Girls post an undefeated record of 3-0, Varsity Boys 1-2, JV Boys come in at 2-1, and JV Girls are also undefeated at 1-0.
The season opener against Andrew Jackson Academy started off with a win for the Warhawk Varsity Girls and the JV Boys. The Varsity Boys’ game did not go their way, and they posted a loss. CPA Varsity Girl Warhawks had several players putting up good stats for the team. Ava Murray scored 14 points and pulled down six rebounds. Anne Hatcher White put up an additional 12 points, seven steals, and hauled in 11 rebounds. Also lighting up the scoreboard for the Warhawks was Millie Drew with 7 points and six rebounds, Shelby Baker with 7 points, and Cecelia Williams with 2 points and three rebounds. Bre Cain ticked all the categories with 5 points, 5 steals, 4 assists, and 2 rebounds.
Faith Christian Academy hosted CPA December 2nd. The Varsity Boys came up with the win against the Knights with a score of 80-73. Cale Owens put up 4 points, Bryce Kinard added 7, Mateo Castillo led scorers with 34, Charlie Walker sank 10, Collin Hiers contributed 13, and Grayson Martin dropped in 1 at the free throw line. Varsity Girls came away with another win 49-10 and several of the ladies contributed to the win. Gretchen Bryan scored 2 points, Bre Cain came away with 12 steals and 3 points, Cecelia Williams provided 5 rebounds and 4 points, Shelby Baker supplied 10 points, Anne Hatcher White had five rebounds and led CPA scorers with 14 points, Millie Drew had 3 rebounds and chipped in 4 points, Ann Howell added 2 points, and Ava Murray also hit the boards coming away with 4 rebounds and supplying 8 points. Keeping with the winning theme, the JV Boys also won 41-32 sweeping Faith Christian.
It was a mixed bag in the first home game of the season against Calhoun Academy. The Varsity Girl Warhawks capitalized on the home court advantage with a win and improved their record to 3-0. Bre Cain made life difficult for the Cavaliers defensively with 9 steals and scored 4 points, Cecelia Williams scored 2 points, Shelby Baker posted 10 points and pulled down 4 rebounds, Anne Hatcher White led CPA Varsity Girls scorers with14 points and came away with 11 rebounds, Millie Drew contributed 5 points and 5 rebounds, Ava Murray added to the score with 9 points and had 8 rebounds, and Addie Busch added 5 points. The Varsity Boy Warhawks lost bringing their current record to 1-2. The JV Girls started their season with a win over Calhoun Academy, and the JV Boys lost putting them at 2-1.
The hits just kept on coming for the Girls Varsity team. Their December 20th game against Thomas Sumter Academy posted another win for the Warhawks 35-29. Anne Hatcher White led all CPA Gurks Varsity scorers pouring in 23 points and pulling down 9 rebounds. Bre Cain contributed 8 points, 8 rebounds, and made herself a thorn in TSA’s side with 10 steals. Celia Williams put 2 points and the board and has 2 rebounds. Rounding out the CPA Girls Varsity win was Shelby Baker with 5 rebounds, Gretchen Bryan with 3 rebounds, and Millie Drew with 1 rebound. Coach Belinda McCoy commented this was “a good “W” right before Christmas and there is a lot of basketball to look forward to.”
