Colleton County VFW Annual Award Ceremony

The Colleton County VFW Post 12102 and Auxiliary held their Annual Award Ceremony on 14 January in Walterboro. Ten-year pins were presented to Sr. Vice Commander Bill Proctor for service completed in December 2020, and Comrade Tommy Carter for service completed in January 2021.

Patriots Pen winner, Matthew Storey was not present to receive his Outstanding Young Spokesperson of the Future.

Voice of Democracy winner, Sarah Rickborn presented her essay, America where do we go from here. Sarah received her certificate for Outstanding Young Spokesperson for Freedom along with a check.

Colleton County Veterans’ Councilmen David Lies and Scott Karal presented the 2nd place trophy from the Veterans’ Day parade to Commander Marc Jacob and Auxiliary President Michele Jones.

ACE Basin Composite Civil Air Patrol (CAP) Squadron, Cadet SSgt Lincoln McClellan received the VFW CAP Non-Commission Officer Medal, Certificate, and check. The Citation is part read, “It is through Cadet SSgt McClelland efforts that the ACE Basin Composite Squadron is seeing a steady interest in this vital field of information technology. He is a contributing member to many of the activities within the squadron and demonstrating promise in developing leadership skills and encouraging others to move forward in their achievements.”

Cadet 2d Lt. Nathan Mercer was not present to receive his VFW CAP Officer Medal or his Youth Life Saving Award.

Cadet 2d Lt Mercer quick thinking and physical exertion in the mountains of NE Georgia saved his father’s life when his father was entering the beginning stages of diabetic shock.

Capt. Raymond Colson of the Cottageville Police Department who was also not present will be presented with his In-Line of Duty Life Saving Award later.
