On Saturday, December 14, 2024 at Dogwood Hills Golf Course in Walterboro, SC, Colleton County Parks and Recreation hosted The Elf Dash-and-Drive Golf Tournament.” Over 50 golfers participated in the 4-Man Captain’s Choice Golf Tournament. Golfers were encouraged to bring a toy, along with their tournament entry fee. If they were to bring a toy, they would receive 2 free mulligans to be used throughout the tournament. Over 200 toys were collected and are to be distributed to Colleton DSS.
We also had numerous local businesses make hole sponsorship donations and toy donations. Hole sponsors included Bank of the Lowcountry, Cherokee Plantation, Clean Management, Crosby Machine Shop, Fishburne & Company, Forks General Store, Ivanhoe Family Cinemas, Kyla F. Special thanks to the Rice Festival Committee for making a sizable toy donation!
Lee Murdaugh provided Perlo for all of the golfers, which was a huge hit! Lee Murdaugh’s family also provided a sizable donation of toys as well.
This event was a collective effort between the staff of Colleton County Parks and Recreation and staff of Dogwood Hills Golf Course. We at Colleton County Parks and Recreation would like to extend our gratitude to the Dogwood Hills Golf Course staff and Mr. Roy Metzendorf, General Manager, for allowing us to use the golf course to provide this wonderful community event.
For many the Christmas season can be challenging and if by providing these toys for the children of Colleton County cuts down on some of the hardships felt, we have accomplished our goal! Amazing things can happen when the community comes together for the common good!
