Colleton County Board of Trustees Committee of the Whole meeting

The Colleton County Board of Trustees held their Committee of the Whole meeting Tuesday, May 13 at the Colleton County District Offices. A full board was at the meeting and Councilman Scott Biering was also in attendance.

After the welcome, invocation, and pledge the national anthem was sang in a moving performance by Amari Ford of the NJROTC.

The Mission Statement was given by the Bells Elementary Princesses and Pearls and Young Men’s Club sponsored by Diamond Berry, Tiffany Brewer, Jarrod Coleman, and Jimmy Wiggins. These clubs teach boys and girls how to be good examples of young men and women through dress, behavior, and interactions with others. Members of the Young Men’s Club and Princesses and Pearls Club shared what they had learned in the clubs and how they enjoyed being a part of the experience. Ms. Berry thanked those that support these two initiatives informing the clubs were supported by more than 30 businesses, churches, Greek organizations across Walterboro and Ruffin. Ms. Berry also highlighted different active clubs at Bells Elementary School and their accomplishments.

The civility pledge was recited by the board members.

First order of business was the Approval of the Agenda. There was a motion to approve the agenda, seconded, no discussion, and passed unanimously.

The next order of business was the Above and Beyond Staff Recognitions presented by Superintendent Jessica F. Williams.

MUSC/Boeing Wellness Celebration Awards

MUSC and Boeing create a lean team focusing on obesity in youth since 2007. In 2013, CCSD joined initiative to help fight obesity with each school participating. Through different programs implemented in each school, successful results in each programs allowed the school to earn point to compete for prizes. The team leaders for each of the schools, presented by Deneya Dingle, are:

Chairperson Stroble also noted the CCHS Girls’ Soccer team progressed to the 2nd round of the playoffs. This is the first time since 2018 they have advanced. She also announced the Girls’ Softball team has progressed in their playoffs too.
