Walterboro City Council proclaimed April and May as Keep Walterboro Beautiful, as part of the Great American Cleanup in the City of Walterboro.

The City of Walterboro is encouraging citizens to join in activities that promote responsible environmental stewardship and a commitment to building a better city and county for future generations.

The Press and Standard is dedicating a “Litter pick-up Heroes” photo page in the June 2nd issue to recognize groups who voluntarily picked up trash.

As a part of this effort, we are asking that readers send in your group’s or business’s photos of members or employees picking up trash in the city or county and be recognized as community heroes.

The deadline to submit photos is May 26th.

Keep America Beautiful is the nation’s iconic community improvement nonprofit organization that envisions a country in which every community is a clean, green, and beautiful place to live. The organization established the Great American Cleanup as its signature national effort for involving American citizens in improving their community environment.

The program engages more than five million volunteers and participants every year to create positive change and lasting impact in local communities.

Leaders from the city and the county say they hope residents will get involved to protect the local natural resources and bring people together to transform public spaces into beautiful places.

Leadership throughout the area is asking citizens, civic groups, government officials, and business leaders to work together to end littering, improve recycling, and beautify the community. Consider incentives for gathering a group to help clean up the area.

Keep Walterboro Beautiful, and the City of Walterboro and Colleton County are committed to elevating the importance of volunteerism and motivate everyone in the community to become good stewards of the environment.
