Mrs. Clarice Smoak Ross, age 95, a longtime resident of Walterboro and wife of the late Mr. Forest J. “Pat” Ross, entered into rest Monday evening, July 20, 2020, at The Methodist Oaks in Orangeburg.

Born April 1, 1029, in Yemassee, South Carolina, she was a daughter of the late Gilbert L. Smoak and the late Adelphia Ritter Smoak.   A graduate from Yemassee High School and also the School of Nursing at the Medical College of South Carolina in Charleston, she retired form Colleton Regional Medical Center.    Clarice was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Walterboro, where she was a member of the Will Goodwin Sunday School Class and the Lula Strickland Circle.  

Surviving are: three daughters, Gil Freitag of Redisville, North Carolina, Patricia “Sissy” Williamson of Walterboro, and Cathy Cook and her husband Bill of Walterboro; and five grandchildren, Kelly Freitag, Kate Freitag, and Ben Freitag all of Charleston, Leslie Williamson Freke and her husband Tim of Walterboro, and Melissa Williamson Southard and her husband William of Charleston; four great grandchildren, Georgia, Parker, Vada, and Bradeden and a sister, Harriet Kessler of Piney Flats, Tennessee.  She was preceded in death by a son-in-law, David Williamson. 

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions be directed in her memory to Bethel United Methodist Church, 355 Hampton Street, Walterboro, South Carolina 29488.

Due to the current state with the Novel Coronavirus Pandemic, a private graveside funeral ceremony will be held in the family plot at Live Oak Cemetery on South Jefferies Boulevard in Walterboro with only her family in attendance Saturday morning, July 25, 2020.
