The Walterboro Civitan Club held its July 25th meeting at Dukes Barbecue. The meeting was called to order by the ringing of the bell. After recitation of the Civitan Creed, the Pledge of Allegiance, and the Invocation, Civitan President, Kimber Santorella led the meeting.
The guest speaker was David Stanfield of WVFF Radio, he spoke about the new radio station its format and mission. WVFF can be found at 97.7 FM on you radio.
The Civitan Club also voted to honor a person of the year. This person “yet to be chosen” will have made an important contribution to Walterboro and Colleton County area in the past year. All citizens are encouraged to nominate someone, the nominee can be living or deceased, and a resident of Colleton County. Please explain why this person is worthy to be named “Person of the Year” and submit your choice to Walterboro Civitans at PO Box 1331, Walterboro, SC 29488. The winner will receive a $200 card to be given to the charity of their choice. Deadline to submit your choice is September 5, 2024.

Civitan is the only service organization dedicated to serving people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). This long-standing focus began as a local project in Baltimore in the 1940s when Civitan began funding specialized teachers in schools. In 1956, Civitan membership unanimously adopted service to I/DD as the major project focus of the international organization. Today, Civitan supports the Civitan International Research Center in Birmingham, Alabama where more than 100 researchers work on diseases that impact the lives of 1 in 6 people worldwide.
