Christan Spires has resigned her position as tourism director of Walterboro to become director of public relations for Colleton Medical Center.

Spires began working with the City of Walterboro in June of 2018. “In my time there I have made some amazing relationships, learned a lot, and hope to have given back to the community in some way. My decision to resign from my position has been very difficult. I have been fortunate enough to have the opportunity to take on my next role as the director of public relations for Colleton Medical Center and am eager to see where this opportunity leads me,” she said. She will continue to serve the community through her roles with the Rice Festival, Walterboro Criterium, and the S.C. Artisans Center.

“The two things that I am most proud of in my role as Tourism Director have been the implementation of First Thursday and having been a part in the opening of the Walterboro Wildlife Center,” Spires said. “First Thursday has felt like my baby since its start in December of 2018. I have loved watching it grow and cannot wait to see how it develops over the next year. The Wildlife Center is an amazing facility and shows the potential of Walterboro’s future. I have enjoyed seeing the construction of the center and the amphitheater and am excited to see future programming in both.

“It has been a true joy to work for the City of Walterboro. I would like to thank Jeff Molinari and Hank Amundson, Mayor Young, and City Council for the tremendous amount of mentorship and guidance they have given me over the past year and a half. I’m looking forward to seeing the continued improvements to Walterboro and Colleton County,” Spires said.
