City Council members unanimously passed a resolution declaring May 1-7, 2022, as “Municipal Clerks Week in Walterboro.”

The resolution was to recognize and honor the valuable contributions that municipal clerks make to cities and towns in South Carolina.

Adrienne Nettles is the City Clerk for Walterboro, and city leaders say she plays a critical support role to the mayor, city council and staff.

The position of municipal clerk is the only municipal staff role that is required by state law, regardless of a municipality’s size or form of government. All 271 cities and towns in the state are required to have a municipal clerk.

A municipal clerk’s responsibilities under state law include giving notice of meetings to council members and the public, keeping minutes of proceedings, and performing other duties.

At a recent city council meeting, Walterboro City Council members recognized and honored Nettles for her contributions to the city.
