A large piece of commercial property that is nestled in the heart of Walterboro’s growing downtown district is under new ownership, and this sale could bring about a big change to the overall look of downtown Walterboro.

Officials with the City of Walterboro have purchased the vacant property for $375,000. It is located at 114 North Walter Steet, at the corner of Hampton Street. The property was originally used as a Walterboro Ford dealership, and is commonly referred to as “the old Ford building.”

It sat empty for many years.

The property purchase occurred on March 22nd and has been approved by multiple layers of city officials, including Walterboro City Council.

The actual site is 1.21 acres.

“At this time, the City has not made any decisions on the future of the property,” said Jeff Molinari, manager for the City of Walterboro.

The property is located behind E. Washington Street, which is the downtown Walterboro’s version of a “main street.” This street hosts multiple small businesses and boutiques.

On the other side, the property also faces Hampton Street, where Walterboro City Hall, the Walterboro Police Department and the Walterboro Fire Department are located.
