Christian patriotism: God and government | Faith

Psalm 33:12
“Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord…”

We’ve all heard the phrase, “God and government.”
There are those who deny a place for “God in government”
It is the duty of every Christian to vote our values and restore this nation to her original intended declaration... to be one nation under God.
“In God We Trust” boldly proclaims our founding fathers’ intention to build a country that not only recognized God, but reverenced Him as well. When the Continental Congress recessed, someone asked Benjamin Franklin what form of government the new country would have. He replied, “A Republic, if you can keep it.”
As Americans, we all look back to the original founders of this Republic and owe them a debt of gratitude that we would be given such an incredibly amazing form of government. We are eternally grateful to all the brave men and women who wear (or have worn) the uniform of the United States armed forces. They literally put their lives on the line every single day to protect and preserve the freedom we all enjoy. While many of us may not have chosen the path of military service, we all reap the benefits of liberty and owe the servicemen and women a huge debt of gratitude.
So, what can we do to show our thankfulness and be a participant in the preservation of our American freedoms? Vote! What makes voting so important? Voting declares my personal understanding and acceptance of my responsibility to be the steward of this part of the planet and hold my government accountable before God to do what is Biblically right. Voting helps determine policies, not just political candidates.
Voting teaches my children to honor and respect the heritage, flag, and Constitution along with the privileges we enjoy as a nation. Voting declares the values that I hold to and agree with as a child of God: anti-abortion, pro-capital punishment, personal property rights, the right to keep and bear arms, representative form of government … just to name a few.
When a Christian votes, he/she should vote with the Bible in mind. What does God’s Word say (in context) about this issue? As a Christian, we ought to vote for candidates who align themselves closest to the principles prescribed in the Bible. A political party that declares its platform to be in any way contrary to the Bible’s position on an issue should never receive one Christian vote!
You should check the candidates and see who stands and agrees with where you take a Biblical stand. Whether they are running for president, senate, sheriff or any office … they ought to choose a party and position that is in line with the principles and practices taught in the Bible.
The political parties themselves are not the answer to our American problems. The chaos and confusion and hatred we see in our streets are not issues that a politician can solve on their own. This is not a republican-solved situation. This is not a democrat-solved situation. Our nation needs the Cross. The cross of our Lord Jesus Christ is the message of hope and the solution for every ill and vice this country is facing.
As a pastor and Christian, I am called to “Go ye therefore and teach all nations.” The nation must be told and the nation must be taught to turn back to Jesus Christ. If Christians in our communities would teach the nation, we could change the nation. We must vote Biblical values, and turn our country completely back to God. COVID-19 is a wake-up call for America. What we do next may very well determine our destiny!

Vote! Know your polling place. Volunteer! Be a poll watcher.
Because “Evil triumphs when good men do nothing.”
God Bless! See you in church!
