WALTERBORO: Patricia “Pat” Mae Wiltse Carter, 87, of Lexington passed away peacefully December 14 surrounded by her children at Lexington Medical Center. Pat was born in Penticton, British Columbia, Canada March 7, 1937 to the late Wilfred and Mabel Wiltse. She often spoke of her wonderful childhood filled with loving parents and siblings. Some of her fondest memories included climbing her family’s cherry and peach trees to enjoy the fresh fruit, playing in the snow and skating on frozen ponds in the winter. She and her former husband, the late Marvin Carter, raised six children together. The family spent time in Davenport, Iowa, before settling in Walterboro where Pat worked in the banking industry for more than 30 years. Pat was an avid fan of Carolina baseball, loved puzzles and reading, and found joy being with her family. Known for her generosity, thoughtfulness and optimistic spirit, she always looked at the brighter side of life. One of her proudest achievements was seeing her dream of completing college fulfilled by her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her children: Debora (Keith) Cox of Lexington, Lana (Jeff) Zehr of Mauldin, Blaine Carter of Lexington, Garrett (Margaret) Carter of Walterboro and Bart Carter of Walterboro, as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Pat is also survived by her brothers Ron (Nita) Wiltse, Leslie (Delores) Wiltse, and her sister Linda Wiltse (Wayne); all of British Columbia. She was preceded in death by her son Lance Carter, grandson Brandon Carter, sisters Shirley Bardo, Joan Brochu, Trudy Stallard and brother Gary Wiltse. The family extends a heartfelt thank you to the Lexington Medical Center Intensive Care team for their loving and compassionate care. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, January 11, at the Doctor’s Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Walterboro, where she will be interred beside her late son, Lance Carter. Following the service, family and friends are invited to join the family for a reception celebrating Pat’s life at the home of her son, Garrett and Margaret Carter, 1949 Wolf Creek Road, Walterboro, SC 29488.
