Mr. Wendell Coplen Carson, Sr., 77, of Walterboro, entered into eternal rest Saturday morning, February 15, 2025, at his son’s residence surrounded by his loving family. Born December 29, 1947, in Colleton County, he was a son of the late Lemuel Carson and Katherine Cook Carson. Wendell retired from the South Carolina Department of Transportation as a heavy equipment operator. Wendell had a strong work ethic. He, along with his wife, owned and operated Carson’s Seafood Market and Carson’s Paint and Repair, LLC. He was also a lifelong farmer. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. Having served as President of Kelly Bay Hunting Club, he was affectionately known as ‘Lone Ranger”. He was a lifelong member of Marion Baptist Church in Williams. Surviving are: his wife of 57 years, Nancy Zeigler Carson of Walterboro; sons, Wendy Carson (Cristy) of Walterboro, Daniel Carson (Brandy) of Walterboro, and Christopher Carson of Walterboro; grandchildren, Cody, Cinnamon, Becky, Christopher Jr., Bradlie, Jada, Elizabeth, Carolyn, and Johnathan; great grandchildren, Tanner, Brycen, Kelsey, Lainie, Lukas, and Cooper; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Johnny McRae Carson; and his sisters, Ellen Nettles, Maxine Padgett, and Mary Warren. The family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to Edisto Hospice for their care and devotion to Mr. Carson. Funeral services will be held 11 o’clock, Friday morning, February 21, 2025, at The Brice Herndon Funeral Chapel, Walterboro. Interment will follow at Carson Cemetery, Zeke Road, Walterboro.
