Mr. Carroll E. Thomas, husband of Nadine Hughes Thomas, passed away Tuesday morning, August 31, 2021 at his home in Mewville, under hospice care, with his family by his side.  He was 94.

Mr. Thomas was born in Colleton County July 26, 1927 a son of the late Eugene and Martha Stanley Thomas.  He was a proud veteran of the United States Army, having been drafted twice, serving as a medic in both WWII and the Korean War.  He was a law enforcement officer for the Savannah River Site for sixteen years, and had also farmed for the majority of his life.  Mr. Thomas was an active member of Hendersonville Baptist Church where he was a Deacon, and member of the building and grounds committee.  

In addition to his wife of 71 years, he is survived by his children:  Janine Thomas Smoak (Michael) of Walterboro, and Martha Ann Thomas Bell (Charlie) and Michael Eugene Thomas of Mewville.  He leaves behind 10 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and a daughter-in-law Jan Thomas.  He was preceded in death by a son, Steve “Stevie” Thomas.  

The family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to Amedysis Hospice and its nurses, and to the caregivers Mary, Shirley, Angie and Ann who all cared so much for Mr. Thomas during his illness.  Their kindness will not be forgotten.

Due to the current situation that exists with the coronavirus, and with the safety and well-being of the community in mind, funeral services will be held privately.  Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home of Walterboro is in charge of arrangements.
