The teen driver of a car that left the roadway and crashed into a Walterboro house last week received minor injuries.

On Wednesday, Oct. 20th, an 18-year-old driver from Summerville failed to negotiate a curve near the 1300 block of Wichman Street near downtown Walterboro and crashed into a house, according to Barry McRoy, director of Colleton County Fire-Rescue. The driver was driving a Chevrolet Impala at a “high rate of speed,” said McRoy, when the crash occurred. … the Impala “entered the yard of one residence, knocking down two brick pillars, which caused the car to overturn,” said McRoy. “The upside-down vehicle continued traveling south on its roof, through a fence and then collided with the house, damaging the side porch,” he said.

No one inside the house was injured.

Firefighter-paramedics with Colleton County Fire-Rescue treated the driver on scene and then transported him to Colleton Medical Center.

The Walterboro Police Department is investigating the crash.
