A car reported stolen in New Jersey was involved in a five-car wreck at the corner of Robertson Boulevard and Jefferies Boulevard near CVS on Friday Jan. 31 at 2:36 p.m.

Matt Southern of the S.C. Highway Patrol said the suspect was driving northbound on Jefferies when he lost control and struck two cars stopped for the light on Robertson Boulevard. One of those cars started spinning, striking the two cars on Jefferies. The suspect’s car then hit the other cars.

The driver was reportedly a juvenile from Budd Lake, N.J. Deputies were attempting to stop the driver when the accident occurred, Southern said.

One other person in the accident was also taken to CMC.

The incident began when Colleton County Sheriff’s deputies spotted the car, a white 2019 Subaru Impreza, near Walmart. They attempted to stop the vehicle but the driver fled. The suspects then made a right onto Eddie Chasteen Boulevard, hit a tree in the parking lot at El Pueblo restaurant, made a U-turn and exited the parking lot.

As the car was fleeing, the backseat passenger attempted to get out of the car while it was moving, but the driver didn’t slow enough for him to escape. The driver then turned on Robertson Boulevard, disregarded the stopped traffic at the light and sped into traffic. The suspect vehicle finally stopped when it hit a truck stopped at the red light.

The three suspects were transported by deputies to Colleton Medical Center.

Highway patrolmen reportedly found a black Walther .40 caliber gun and one gram of GPM.

All three suspects were charged with possession of a stolen vehicle greater than $10,000 and possession of a stolen firearm.

The adult was transported to the Colleton County Detention Center and the two juveniles to the Dept. of Juvenile Justice.
