A survey asking for community and parent feedback on which calendar the Colleton County School Board should approve for the coming school year is about to end.

The survey is available now through May 13th and is available at www.colleton.k12.sc.us.

Any Colleton County parent, student, teacher, or community member can take the survey, which provides two calendar options.

The first option is known as Calendar Sample A. In this option, school would start on August 15th and end on June 1st of 2023. This option includes an extended student break in October, from an early dismissal day on Tuesday, Oct. 18th through that Friday, Oct. 21st. It also includes a traditional fall break from Nov. 23-25th, with students returning on Monday, Nov. 2ith.

Additionally, the Sample A calendar includes a two-week Christmas break, with students getting out of school on Friday, Dec. 16th and not returning until Tuesday, Jan. 3rd.

This version also has spring break listed April 3-April 7th of 2023.

The second option – Calendar Sample B – has students’ first day of school on August 15th, but the last day of school in 2023 would be May 31st.

This version of the calendar has an early release day on Tuesday, Oct. 18th, followed by a student-free teacher workday on Wednesday, Oct. 19th. There is no prolonged break for students in October.

The traditional fall break is Thursday, Nov. 23 – Nov. 25th and there is a two-week break in December, from December 16th through Jan. 3rd.

Spring Break in this model is scheduled for April 3-April 7th.

The Colleton County School Board voted in March of this year use a traditional calendar for the coming 2022-2023 school year; however, the board also voted to use a new year-round calendar model for the following school year.
