Burn Barrel Starts Fire on Esau Circle

A fire that started from an unattended burn barrel spread across several yards, a field and then entered a large, wooded area Wednesday afternoon 29-January. Colleton County Fire-Rescue was dispatched to Esau Circle. Crews arrived to find a fast-moving grass fire, with one vehicle well involved. Several buildings on nearby property were also endangered. Additional Fire-Rescue units and the Forestry Commission which supplied one brush unit and two tractors to work the fire that spread into nearby woods and an adjacent field that contained many vehicles. Eight vehicles were destroyed, and the fire burned around two homes. Eventually 10 acres of brush and woods were also involved. Firefighters were able to stop the flames from damaging the homes and many other vehicles on the property.
