Walker J. Bryan of Ruffin won an essay contest, The Patriot Pen, sponsored by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 12102 and Auxiliary of Walterboro.
The contest was open to all 6-8th-grade students as well as home-schooled students on the topic “What Makes America Great,” containing a 300-400 word essay on their views of the topic.
Bryan was presented The Patriot Pen, a certificate and monetary gift on Jan. 10 followed by a reception.
He is the son of Ashley and Matthew Bryan of Ruffin and has a sister, Gracen.
