Colleton County High School Cougar Football senior Saigron Bowman has announced his decision to attend Georgia Knights Academy in Snellville, Georgia.
Georgia Knights Academy was founded in 2017 and offers the opportunity for student-athletes to participate in collegiate sports while pursuing a two-year college degree. The Knight’s schedule is designed to give players exposure for recruitment by four-year colleges while not losing any NCAA eligibility.
Bowman was a two-year varsity letterman for the Colleton County Cougars and contributed on the offensive line. “I would like to thank Benedict College, Maryville College, Oklahoma Baptist University, and Wingate College for their interest in me,” said Bowman. “After much thought and deliberation, I decided to move forward with the Georgia Knights.”
“It has been a confusing and challenging time being a student-athlete this past year,” said Bowman. “Before my junior year, I had big dreams of college recruiting visits, attending college camps, and competing at the college level. However, due to the impact of COVID-19, we as a nation have been forced to adjust to new norms. Georgia Prep Academy will allow me the time I need to develop the skills needed to meet the challenges of an athletically charged college or university, NCAA time restraints and to spend ample time on weight training making me an even better player athletically.”
“As a child, I grew up playing football, and have always had a passion for the game,” said Bowman. “Football has been a way of life since I was five years old. Throughout the years, the founding principles of football have helped me to be a strong, well-disciplined young man with the ability to lead and be responsible. I look forward to college football with the same work ethic and desire that has led to my achievements at Colleton County.”
“My experiences with football have taught me to relish hard work, while perseverance has yielded several invaluable lessons that will directly enable me to succeed in college and in my future career,” said Bowman. “I envision my college years to be a personal growth period. I come from a strong Christian background, and I thank God each day for giving me the gift of football.”
“My parents are my heroes, and their encouragement, teachings, and perseverance has put a fire inside of me to succeed in life,” said Bowman. “They have both inspired me to care for others and treat people with dignity and respect. I would not be where I am today without them. I would also like to thank the entire coaching staff at Colleton County and give a special thanks to Coach Lyons who has pushed me further then I could have ever imagined. He taught me how to discipline both my mind and my body and encouraged me on and off the field.
Bowman is the son of Sylvester and Cindy Bowman. He maintains a 3.2 GPA and plans to pursue a degree in business.
