Mr. Robert Lee Patterson, known by all as “Bob”, age 74, of Walterboro, entered into rest following a brief illness Friday evening, March 6, 2020, at the Ralph H. Johnson Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Charleston.

Born June 23, 1945, in New London, Connecticut, he was a son of the late Robert Herman Patterson and the late Elizabeth Nolan Patterson. He served our country faithfully in the United States Navy during the Vietnam Era and was a recipient of the prestigious Purple Heart.  Following his time in service, he made Charleston his home and received his engineering degree from Trident Technical Collage.  He worked a long and dedicated career as a Quality Control Engineer having worked for a number of years at both Bosch and American Yard Products.  He was a member of Doctor’s Creek Baptist Church and the Christian Motorcyclists Association.  He was an outdoorsman, who dearly loved fishing and riding his motorcycle.  Family and friends were also important to Bob, he was always willing to do for others and always a constant icon at the local Huddle House. 

Surviving are: his wife of thirty years, Mrs. Janice Avant Simmons Patterson; five children, Betty Patterson Hilton and her husband Bobby of Harleyville, Charles Patterson of North Carolina, Sean Larkin and his wife Christine of Texas, Robert Larkin and his wife Melissa of North Carolina, and David Simmons and his wife Ashely of Walterboro; three brothers, his twin, Reggie Patterson, Mike Patterson and his wife Holly, and Jack Dabney and his wife Susan; nine grandchildren, Emily, Robert, Christi, Mac, Spencer, Kale, Landon, Jordan, and Jess; two great grandchildren, Raelyn and Wesley; and four brothers-in-law, Decky Avant and his wife Amy, Ronnie Avant and his wife Mamie Dell, Dennis Avant and his wife Betsy, and Buckshot Avant and his wife Sharon. He is also survived by his beloved and constant sidekick, “BooBoo”.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions be directed in his memory to the following: Friends of Fisher House Charleston, Post Office Box 1678, Charleston, South Carolina 29402; or to, Wounded Warrior Project, Post Office Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8516.

Funeral services with military honors will be conducted 4 o’clock Tuesday afternoon, March 10, 2020, from the graveside at Doctor’s Creek Baptist Church, 126 Doctors Creek Road, Walterboro. The Reverend Buckshot Avant officiating.
