Blackshear saves 14 shots in goal against Eagles

The Colleton County Varsity Girls soccer team fell in their last three Region VII-AAAA games against Bluffton High School (10-0), James Island High School (15-0) and Beaufort High School (9-0). The Lady Cougars are 2-3 overall and 0-3 in conference competition.

“We have lost the last three games,” said Coach Danielle Van Hulst. “Every game I have seen improvement, but it has been hard because of having to shut down due to COVID-19. Seems like when we get a couple weeks in, something happens against us. I am proud of the girls and the time they have been putting in. Hopefully we can get back on the field and complete our last two weeks of the season without issues.”

“Our defense and goalkeepers have been stepping up for us and doing their best to keep us on the game,” said Van Hulst. “Many of the players are playing in positions they are learning, and we are mashing half of a junior varsity team and half of a varsity team which makes it rough, but everyone is trying their best.”

“Rush Blackshear stepped up for us in goal,” said Van Hulst. “She had literally a 30-minute session and got in goal. She did well and as much as she could. She saved 14 shots against Beaufort. I was extremely proud of her stepping up and taking on the responsibility of a tough position.”
