To a cafeteria filled with students, FHE staff, and student relatives, Forest Hills Elementary School students presented their Black History Month program.

Ms. Shider welcomed all in attendance and introduced Ms. Hamlin as the Mistress of Ceremonies. Case Westbury also welcomed the audience to the event, Promise Sutter explained Black History Month and why it is celebrated. Ava Nettles read a poem about Black History Month and it’s significance. Ms. Taylor Fussell’s Forest Hills Elementary School Honor Choir gave an inspiring performance featuring two exceptional solos. Mrs. Anna Bright was then introduced as the guest speaker for the day and she delivered a motivational message for the audience. Mrs. Bright spoke about the importance of Black History Month and notable black Americans who have done great things in their lives from law, to government, to the arts, and more. Perhaps most importantly Mrs. Bright also encouraged the students by telling them they could be anything they wanted to be and they have it inside themselves to do great things in their lives as well. Also featured were students who “dressed” for the day. Duke Ellington was represented as well as Harriett Tubman and two young ladies dressed in vibrant ethnic attire.

The event was highly enjoyable and well presented by the staff and students at Forest Hills Elementary School.
