Big night for Bailey propels Lady Hawks to win over Swampcats

The Colleton Prep Lady Hawk softball team improved to 6-1 overall and 2-0 in Region IV-AA after wins over opponents John Paul II (16-3), Laurence Manning Academy (5-4), and Thomas Heyward Academy (10-4).

The Lady Hawks traveled to John Paul II on March 29 for a Region IV-AA game.

Haley Bootle earned the win in the circle, allowing two hits and one run over three and a third innings, striking out five and walking none. Sidney Bailey threw one and two-thirds innings in relief, allowing two earned runs on three hits, issuing one walk and striking out three.

Linley Jones was 2-4 at the plate with 4-RBIs. Makenzie Pellum, Taylor Tomedolskey, Becca Martin, Addison Crosby, and Hannah Strickland had multiple hits in the contest.

The following evening, the Lady Hawks faced Laurence Manning Academy, where they would trail 4-3 in the bottom of the seventh inning before Sidney Bailed doubled on the first pitch to score two runs in a walk-off win for Colleton Prep. Bailey’s bat was hot the entire games, as she recorded her first-ever out of the park homerun in the third inning for the Lady Hawks.

Haley Bootle earned the victory for Colleton Prep, allowing 10 hits and four runs over seven innings, striking out two and walking one. L Kosinki took the loss for Laurence Manning, lasting six and two-thirds innings, allowing eight hits and five runs while striking out two and walking one. The Lady Hawks had eight hits in the game with Bailey and Jones recording multiple hits.

In the at-home win over Thomas Heyward Academy on April 4, Bootle led the Colleton Prep Academy Varsity Warhawks to victory in the circle, going seven innings, allowing four runs on seven hits and striking out 12.

The Lady Hawks recorded 15 hits in the game. Caroline Kinard put the Lady Hawks on the board in the second inning when she singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run.

Colleton Prep pulled away scoring four runs in the fourth inning when Hannah Strickland doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run, followed by Jones and Pellum doubles, and a Tomedolskey single to send runners across home plate. Jones and Tomedolskey went 3-4 on the day.

Colleton Prep will travel to Orangeburg Prep on Monday, April 11 for a non-conference game.
