The BIG BLUE JAZZ Band earned an Excellent Rating for their performance this past weekend at the 2025 South Carolina Band Directors Association Jazz Performance Assessment at Charleston Southern University. This is the fourth year BIG BLUE JAZZ has existed and has band members from CCHS and CCMS in grades 8-12.
This year over 130 high school and middle school jazz bands performed at the festival.
This year’s band performed MOONDANCE by Van Morrison. Soloist were Neveah Smith on alto sax; Jake Deshane on trombone Sean Nunez on trumpet, and Carla Harrison on tenor sax.
Their ballad selection was GEORGIA ON MY MIND by Hoagy Carmichael with soloist Sean Nunez on trumpet and Jada Christian on trombone.
Their final selection was GONNA FLY NOW -The Theme from “Rocky” by Bill Conti featuring Sean Nunez on trumpet, Caleb Creel on drums, and Carla Harrison on tenor sax.
BIG BLUE JAZZ Seniors include Shaniya Crosby, Josh King, Alex Green, Carla Harrison, Jada Christian, Sean Nunez, Nora Holmes, Princeton Brooks, Stephen Arnold and Dominick Jackson
Band of Blue Associate Director, Nick Infinger leads the group. The Band of Blue BIG BLUE JAZZ band plays at several events in the spring and has performed at CCHS and for the Colleton County School District.
