Mrs. Betty Ruth DeWitt Craven, 79, of Walterboro, entered into eternal rest Friday evening, August 6, 2021 at Summerville Medical Center. She was the widow of the late J.D. Craven, to whom she was married 61 years.

Born January 18, 1942 in Colleton County, she was the daughter of the late Klein DeWitt and Pearl Crosby DeWitt. She worked as a seamstress at Walterboro Dress for 30 years and was the night auditor for Rice Planters Inn in Walterboro for 20 years. Mrs. Betty was a member of Walterboro Church of God of Prophecy, where she served in many capacities, including Sunday School Teacher, Children’s Church Coordinator and Homecoming Committee.  She was the chief fundraiser for Happy Home Flavoring and single handedly raised large amounts of funds to go towards the church.  She was an excellent southern cook whose specialties were fruit cake, pound cake and puerlo’s.  Her family and her church were her life.  She centered her life around family, always making sure they were taught the word of God and Christian values.  If you ever met Mrs. Betty, you knew she was a sweet, precious lady, but you also knew her unconditional love and unwavering faith.

Surviving are: her children, Sharon Craven Hillier and her husband Jeff, Brenda Craven Eustace, and Johnny R. Craven and his wife Donna, all of Walterboro; grandchildren, James Ronald “Jamie” Eustace, Jr. (Megan), Brittany Leigh Eustace Nettles and her husband Joshua, Sarah Lyndsay Craven (Kyle), and Shelby Rae Craven; great grandchildren, Hunter Daniel Nettles and Kate Emerson Davis; a special “adopted son”, Ronald Keegan; and sisters, Thelma Broderick of Walterboro, Pattie Warren of Williams, and Pauline Page of Maryland. She was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Roger Harriett; and brothers, Robert DeWitt, Harold K. DeWitt, Jackie DeWitt, and John Marshall DeWitt.

Funeral services will be held 4 pm, Saturday, August 14, 2021 at the Walterboro Church of God of Prophecy, 114 Peurifoy Road, Walterboro. Entombment will be held privately at Glendale Memorial Cemetery Chapel Mausoleum, Walterboro.

The family will receive friends Saturday afternoon from 2:30 until the hour of service at the church.
