WALTERBORO – Mrs. Eleanor Godwin Bennett, 93, of Walterboro, entered into rest Friday evening, January 3, 2025, at Magnolias of Walterboro. Born July 12, 1931, in Meridian, Mississippi, she was a daughter of the late Robert Leon Godwin and the late Virginia Keller Godwin. A 1947 graduate of Spartanburg High School, she was also a graduate of Cecil Business College. Alongside her husband, they founded and operated successfully for over thirty years, American Drug Testing Corporation in Walterboro, where she served as the company’s Vice President. She was an iconic figure in Walterboro through her service not only there, but also as a part of the United Way, which she played an integral role in establishing in Walterboro in 1961. All of which was a testament to the care and love she had for others. Eleanor possessed a talent for crafts and art framing. She operated the Needlecraft Corner on Magnolia Street in Walterboro for countless years, a highly sought-after framing store by many. She was a certified pharmacy technician and worked tirelessly alongside her husband in their pharmacy Medical Arts Pharmacy. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Walterboro and was active in many civic and local organizations locally and throughout the Lowcountry of South Carolina. She will always be remembered as a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother. Surviving are her husband of sixty-nine years, Dr. William Marshall Bennett, Jr.; three sons, Dr. Robert Bennett of Charleston, Kevin Godwin Bennett Sr. and his wife Paige of Santee, and William Marshall Bennett, III of Myrtle Beach; three grandchildren, Kevin Godwin Bennett, Jr., Janice Nicole Porter, and Summer Elizabeth Bennett; and five great grandchildren. She is also survived by a host of nieces and nephew to include special niece Pam Howard of Simpsonville. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Patricia Godwin Simpson, Carolyn Godwin Howard, and Peggy Godwin Smith.
