Mrs. Barbara “Nanny” Jean Fender Bennett, 71, of Walterboro, entered into rest Wednesday afternoon, May 7, 2025, at the Trident Medical Center in North Charleston. She was the loving wife of fifty-three years to the late Mr. James Donnie Bennett who preceded her in death on January 20, 2025.
Born October 16, 1953, in Lodge, South Carolina, she was a daughter of the late Clyde William Fender and the late Merle Dandridge Fender. A devoted homemaker, she centered her life around her loving family whom she loved with her entire heart. She loved Gamecock football and was an excellent southern cook. She was also a “softball mom” who was always present and always supporting her girls as they grew up. She also supported her grandchildren in anything they did, and her voice could be heard loudly at their sporting events. She was the most selfless woman who went above and beyond for others.
Surviving are: two daughters, Missy Bennett of Walterboro and Ashley Bennett Hadwin (Jason) of Walterboro; a brother, Mike Fender (Sandy); four sisters, Mary Caligiuri, Anne Hicks (Billy), Susie Padgett (Roy), and Jenny Hoats (Carrol); five grandchildren, Whitney Rogers (Nick), Chase Hadwin (Jenna), Morgan Bennett, Dustin “Jim Bob” Hadwin, and Easton Hadwin; and one great grandchild, Fisher Crosby. She was preceded in death by siblings, Betty Scott, Florence Mason, Helen Dooley, Clyde Fender, Jr., and John Fender; and by her beloved dog, “Bo”.
Funeral services were held 3 o’clock Saturday afternoon, May 10, 2025, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro. The Reverend Al Stanley officiated.
