Brice Herndon Funeral Chapels and Crematory

Mr. Benjamin Franklin Evans, known by all as “Ben”, age 81, of Walterboro, entered into rest Saturday morning, December 18, 2021, at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.

Born July 1, 1940, in Walterboro, South Carolina, he was a son of the late Tutor and Hallie Valentine Evans.  He served our country faithfully in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era having served in the “Big Red One”, a distinguished infantry division.   He worked for LaFrage Cement Plant where he retired as a Maintenance Foreman following a dedicated career of nearly forty years.  He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church, Ruffin Circuit where he was a member of the Enoch Henry Sunday School Class.  He was faithful to his church and was always serving in any way or place that he was needed.   He served with Faith Builders in Walterboro which was an organization that was very dear to his heart, suppling handicap ramps for the sick and elderly of the community he dearly loved.  He had a great talent for woodworking, building things, and cultivating an absolutely gorgeous garden that he freely shared it’s harvest with others.  He immensely enjoyed the fellowship of others and each year looked with great anticipation to the annual cookouts they hosted for countless friends to attend.   He will always be remembered as the fun-loving person that he was.  He was always a pleasure and always a joy.  His love and dedication to his family and the dedication he gave as Frankie’s faithful task master.

He was preceded in death by his oldest son in 2006, Benjamin Corey Evans.

Surviving are: his wife the light of his life for fifty-four years, Mrs. Frankie Hudson Evans; a son, Barry Anthony Evans of Beaufort; a brother, Tillman Evans and his wife Susan; his three precious grandchildren, Corey Justin Evans and his wife Summer, Douglas Hudson Evans, and Virginia Grace Evans; and one great grandchild, Corey Ryland Evans.
