PRESS RELEASE. The Band of Blue has been very active in recent weeks, sending eight juniors and seniors to a scholarship fair and to a band clinic – all before taking a trip to Orlando Studios.

On Feb. 9th, the Colleton County High School Band of Blue sent eight juniors and seniors to the

Burke High School College Band Scholarship Fair. Band members from all over

the Lowcountry met and auditioned for band scholarships with several band programs at schools from Florida to North Carolina.

Locally, students Dooley Hiott, Stephanie Arnold, Dayzanae Neals, Delaine Ford, Derek Oliver, Trequan

Stokes, Ally Stephens, and Amber Parker attended the event, which was hosted by the

Burke High School Band Boosters.

Band of Blue Director Tom Finigan and CCHS Principal Maurice Cannon also accompanied the students on the day field trip.

Additionally, Band of Blue members Shawn Jacques recently attended the University of South Carolina

Band Clinic in Columbia. In its 44th year, the USC Band Clinic hosts more than 400 high school students who play wind and percussion. “The goal of the clinic is to expose students to outstanding clinicians,

concerts, and master classes,” said Finigan. “Our students also attended several concerts on

campus at the Koger Center for the Arts,” he said.

Before leaving on Feb. 18th for the band’s trip to Universal Studios in Florida, two Band of Blue members were also selected for the 2022 SCBDA Region Honor Band. The students are Niquee Agina and Dooley Hiott. According to Finigan, this is the highest individual honor a band member can earn.

“This is the second consecutive year Agina and Hiott have been selected, earning regions honors in 2021, too,” he said.

The band’s trip to Orlando Studios was funded by the Booster Club and students.
