Augusta Highway fire deemed suspicious

A suspicious fire destroyed a doublewide mobile home in the 11500 block of Augusta Highway (S.C. Highway 61) Sunday evening Oct. 18.
9-1-1 received several reports of the fire at 22:56 advising the home was fully involved. The first fire unit arrived about 10 minutes later to find the residence almost completely destroyed. The roof and most of the walls had already collapsed.
Firefighter-paramedics deployed multiple handlines to combat the flames. They had the bulk of the fire knocked down within 10 minutes, but remained on scene for three hours. Water supply was handled with tenders.
The fire was suspicious in origin and is still under investigation by the Colleton County Sheriff’s office and Fire-Rescue.
