The Colleton County Athletic Hall of Fame Committee is accepting nominations for individuals to be considered for induction into the athletic hall of fame. In order to be considered for selection, an individual must meet certain requirements. The following is a list of requirements for nomination: First, the individual must be a graduate of a Colleton County public high school Those high schools would include Bells, Lodge, Smoaks, Hendersonville, Cottageville, Ruffin,
Colleton High, Colleton Training School, Walterboro and Colleton County High Schools, Second, Individuals must be a 10 year graduate or more years following graduation. Third, deceased athletes staff are eligible for nomination. Also, the committee may induct those individuals who have made significant contributions to the welfare of the athletic program.
Nominations must be made on the official application form, which is to be completed in full and returned to the Selection Committee. No individual will be considered by the committee until they have been nominated. Once the application is received, the committee will review and decide the eligibility of the individual. The committee will then discuss and determine which of the nominees will be inducted into the Hall of Fame.
It is important that all the individual athletic achievements awards are listed on the application. These athletic achievements only apply to awards or recognition received while playing high school athletics-not for awards received in college. These awards would include items such as all-conference, all-area, all-state, selection to an all-star game, most valuable player on a team, conference player of the year, state player of the year and being a member on a conference or state championship teams.
Once an individual has been selected for induction, the committee will notify the elected athlete in writing of their induction into the Colleton County Hall of Fame. Individuals will be inducted during the half time of a football game during the fall.
People can get an application form on line by searching for the Colleton County Athletic Hall of Fame and downloading the form, Fill out the form and return it to the address at the bottom of the page. Remember, an individual cannot be inducted into the hall of fame without being nominated.
