The Golden Daffodil is owned by a brother-sister team, Erik Lindstrom and Kirsten Paindiris. The local business is a specialty shop that offers an array of services such as re-upholstery, custom-designed upholstered furniture, embroidery, leatherwork, one-of-a-kind printed fabrics, and home goods.

Erik went to The College of Charleston where he majored in Museum Studies. He has been upholstering since building sets for his high school’s theatre department. Erik is a juried artist in the SC Artisan Center, where his ceramic creations can be viewed. He has experience working for The Beaufort Museum and John Rivers Communication Museum as a curator, educator, and interim museum director. Additionally, he worked at Rosebank Farms as a floral designer and event planner in Charleston. For fun, he loves to bake, sing in a barbershop quartet and care for Afie, the shop “pugaranian”.

Kirsten is a creative director and designer with extensive experience in branding, product & package design. She graduated from Central Connecticut State University in graphic design and can turn any idea into reality. In her free time, she loves to cook, do yoga, and travel. Together, Kirsten and Erik have built a local landmark in downtown Walterboro for bespoke home furnishings.

In 2011, Erik looked at a space on the main street in downtown Walterboro that needed a lot of work. Kirsten and Erik have always been close, so Kirsten, along with the rest of the family came together to clean, paint, and organize the space for an antique and upholstery business. The business opened on Halloween, 11 years ago.

Since those early days, the business has grown to occupy a larger footprint and employ other artisans and creatives. They have developed a reputation for quality. In fact, business growth has been fueled primarily by word of mouth. Additionally, the brother-sister team opened a “Chairish” store under their bespoke home furnishing brand “Keri & Erik”. Their mother created the brand when she would use the anagrammed nickname when they were kids.

There is a woodshop on site, where furniture frames are built from the ground up using traditional techniques. Staff uses hardwood mortise and tenon construction with eight-way, hand-tied springs. Furniture pieces can have either down-filled cushions or foam core with a feather wrap.

Upholstery services are not limited to just furniture, but also include boats, cars, and even aircraft interiors. Kirsten and Erik also offer custom printing through dye sublimation. They can digitize a selected file and print it out on an oversized printer. The print is then pressed onto a polyester fabric and is embedded providing a highly personalized item that can withstand the test of time. Combining this technique with embroidery, they can create spectacular custom looks on furniture and home goods.

The two said: “Whether someone needs upholstery services, want to have a special piece made especially for them, or just want to buy some beautiful fabric, they should check out our showroom on 356 East Washington Street in Walterboro. Anything you can imagine, we can build.”
