Air Evacuation needed for collision on Wellston Circle

Two people were seriously injured in a single vehicle MVC on Wellston Circle off Thunderbolt Drive Sunday night June 15th, 2025. A passing motorist discovered the Toyota Sequoia SUV in the woods and notified 9-1-1. It is estimated the accident possibly occurred around 9:00 am. The vehicle drove off Industrial Road at a high rate of speed, failed to negotiate the turn, and entered the wooded area, striking a tree head-on. The vehicle received heavy damage to the exterior and interior. Neither occupant, an adult male and an 8-year-old boy, were wearing seatbelts. Both suffered multiple traumatic injuries. There was no cell phone available, and the patients were not able to walk due to the injuries. They had stayed there injured for over one and a half hours. CCFR arrived on scene and began treating the patients. A second Fire-Rescue ambulance and a medical helicopter were assigned to the incident. The 8-year-old was transported to the meet with C.A.R.E. Flight at their base. The child, who also suffered a head injury, was transferred to the Flight Crew, then flown to Shawn Jenkins Children’s Trauma Center at MUSC. The adult male was taken to Colleton Medical Center where he was later transferred to the Trauma Center at Trident Medical Center. The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
