On Friday Feb. 7 at approximately 12:18 p.m., officers from the Walterboro Police Department responded to Dimitrio’s House of Pizza, 656 Bells Hwy., in reference to a shooting.
Upon arrival, officers found a woman lying on the floor by the front counter. The suspect said he reached into the front pocket of his jeans to pay for his food when his .22 caliber handgun accidently dropped on the floor and discharged. He reportedly told officers that he carried the gun because he worked around a lot of animals.
The woman was hit in the upper back and back of her head.
Colleton County Fire Rescue transported the victim to Colleton Medical Center. She was later flown to Medical University of S.C.
The customer with the weapon, Steven Parker Harrison, 29, was arrested, charged with unlawful possession of a handgun.
The victim has been released from the hospital.
