Moses is born into an Egyptian culture that fears and has enslaved his people. In fact, their fear of the Jews was so great that the Pharaoh had commanded that all newborn Hebrew boys were to be put to death. Moses’ mother had a plan to spare Moses. As God worked it out, Moses was adopted by Pharaoh’s daughter and grew up as the grandson of the king.
But at age forty, knowing his Hebrew heritage, he did something that led to his exile. In 2:11-15, he saw an Egyptian beating one of the Hebrew men. Look closely at verse twelve. “Looking all around and seeing no one, he struck the Egyptian dead and hid him in the sand.” Is there a significant spiritual truth in that verse?? Absolutely!! Here it is. If you find yourself looking around to be certain no one is watching, and/or you need to hide the results, then you should not be doing what you are thinking about doing.
Nothing you do is ever unseen. Even if no one else is around to see, God always sees. If you are ever considering some course of action, ask yourself some questions. Is this something that I do not mind God seeing? Is this something that will please Him? Is this something that I do not mind others knowing? Is this something that will strengthen my relationship with God? If the answers to any of these questions is ‘No,’ then back away from what you are contemplating.
In Ephesians 4:1, Paul urges professing Christians to “live a life worthy of your calling, for you have been called by God.” In Mattew 6:33, Jesus Himself tells us to “Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and He will give you everything you need.” Again, the apostle Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 10:31, “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” The apostle Peter wrote in 1 Peter 2:9, “…You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light. Make 2025 the year you live a life worthy of your calling!
