A Real Relationship with God

Posted

You are my God, and I will praise you; you are my God, and I will exalt you.

Psalm 118:28

It surprises me when people claim God yet pursue no relationship with Him. They may say they are a Christian but have no habit of Bible reading, regular prayer, or gathering for public worship. These are just the outward signs of a relationship with God. If a person has a relationship with the God revealed in the Bible, God is at work to bring that person to Himself by transforming that person into the image of Christ.

When the God of the Bible is genuinely worshipped as the God of your life, you will praise Him. As a believer pursues a closer relationship with God, we celebrate the goodness of God. Our lives become altars of thanksgiving where we offer the sacrifices of gratitude. By faith, we become more aware of the love, mercy, grace and goodness of God that surrounds our lives.

In this process, we affirm our devotion to God, even in situations that are difficult that we don’t understand. In these moments, we either abandon our faith or strengthen our faith. We see this in our text. The psalmist repeats his conviction, “you are my God” and goes beyond praise to exaltation. The psalmist demonstrates his devotion by lifting God above every other love in his life.

What is your relationship to God? Are you pursuing a closer relationship to God? Wherever you are in this process, would you trust God by taking the next step toward Him? Believe in Jesus. Know that He is the Son of God sent to die in our place and forgive us of our sins. Turn from your disobedience to God. Make the God of the Bible your God and praise Him.
