The Rice Festival’s annual 5K Rice Run drew a crowd of spectators and competitors on Saturday who came from across the Lowcountry.
“We had 160 participants that represented 33 cities and 5 states,” said race coordinator Ashley Rhode. Those states include South Carolina, Florida, Georgia, New Mexico, North Carolina and Washington.
In South Carolina, multiple cities were represented, including Charleston, Beaufort, Columbia, Aiken, Sumter and several Colleton County communities.
Although the day began warm and muggy with high humidity, the race was successful with no serious injuries among the competitors.
The overall winner in the women’s competition was Purity Munene, 34, with a time of 00:17:58; 5:47/mile.
The overall winner in the men’s competition was Dylan Villescas, 29, with a time of 00:16:47; 5:24/mile.
