The Colleton County Parks and Recreation Department will hold the second annual Bull Classic Pickleball Tournament on Saturday, February 19 at the Colleton County Recreation Center in Walterboro. The annual event honors the memory of the late Doug Bullock who passed in October 2020 after a courageous battle with cancer. Bullock was instrumental in bringing pickleball to Colleton County and the fruition of a tournament was one of his initial goals.

“The Bull Classic is being held to acknowledge Doug for all he did for the community,” said Micah Brent Snead. “We hope to have a fun day of friendly competition in his memory. After graduating from the University of Miami, Doug earned a Master’s in Educational Administration from The Citadel. His dedication to Colleton County spanned generations and his influence shaped the lives of many.”

Organizers are hoping this year’s participation will top last year’s event where 15 teams and 31 participants honored the “bull.”

Pickleball is held at the Colleton County Recreation Center Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8 a.m. until noon and Sundays from 1-4 p.m. Additionally, they plan to add night pickleball on Tuesday and Friday from 6-8 p.m. All Equipment is provided by the recreation center and is free for members of the fitness center. Non-members are charged $1/per day to play.

Anyone interested in playing in the Bull Classic may contact the Colleton County Parks and Recreation Department at 843-538-3031.
