A 19-year-old Walterboro man died in a single-car wreck on the dirt portion of Round O Road approximately four miles east of Jacksonboro Road on Sunday morning Nov. 22.
The 2007 Chevrolet Suburban was found at 8:18 a.m. by several hunters who reported the accident to 9-1-1.
The vehicle was traveling north, failed to negotiate a curve, left the roadway, overturned and struck several trees. The vehicle was found in a heavily wooded area, lying on the driver’s side with the SUV’s roof pushed to the floor.
Firefighter-paramedics used a chain attached to a pickup truck to pull the SUV off the tree. The engine was cold, indicating the accident occurred earlier in the morning.
The driver, Juliun Guy, 19, of Walterboro died of multiple trauma, said Colleton County Coroner Richard Harvey.
Firefighters used a saw to cut the roof and rescue tools to remove the driver’s door and displace the roof. The driver was extricated and transported by the Coroner’s Office.
The S.C. Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.
Units were on the scene for four hours.
