Two teenagers were shot, one fatally, in a shooting incident that began near the intersection of Francis and Savage streets on Wednesday April 22 at 2:33 p.m.

Callers to 9-1-1 reported the vehicle had been shot and drove several blocks before stopping in the yard at 203 Francis Street.

The 17-year-old female driver, Donaisha Kelly, died from a single gunshot wound. The second victim, a 15-year-old male, ran from the scene and went to Colleton Medical Center’s Emergency Department by private car. Other teenagers in the car were not injured.

Law enforcement officers from the City of Walterboro Police and Colleton County Sheriff’s Office arrived quickly, followed shortly by firefighter-paramedics from Fire-Rescue.

However, the driver was not responsive and had no signs of life.

Officers spent several hours processing the crime scene.

Both suspects were apprehended less than 30 minutes after the shooting occurred. Joseph Mack Jr. has been charged with murder. His bond was denied.

The second suspect is a juvenile, also charged with murder and to be tried as an adult; however, the name of the juvenile has not been released.

The sheriff’s office is investigating the incident.
