11 year old girl received two gunshot wounds in a drive-by type shooting

An 11 year old girl received two gunshot wounds in a drive-by type shooting that occurred in the 300 block of Hill Street at 01:39 Friday morning 05-May. Law Enforcement was in the area investigating a similar incident that occurred about 3/4 of a mile from Hill St. Deputies heard the gunshots and were on the scene quickly. Multiple rounds were fired into an occupied residence. Two rounds struck an 11 year old girl who was in bed. Other young children were also in the home but were fortunately not injured. Law Enforcement Officers from the Sheriff’s Office and Walterboro Police responded and secured the scene. A Deputy provided aid to the child and remained with her until Firefighter-Paramedics arrived. The patient received a wound to the head and one to the hand. Crews controlled the bleeding at the scene, then transported her emergent to the helipad at CMC in Fire-Rescue Medic 19 with additional personnel on board to assist with her care. She was transferred to the flight crew, then flown to Shawn Jenkins Children’s Trauma Center at MUSC by CARE Flight. Walterboro Police are investigating the incident.
