The Colleton County Voter Registration and Elections Commission filled two vacant seats on the Smoaks Town Council during their certification of the Nov. 5 election results.
Although there were four council posts slated for the ballot, only two candidates, Linda L. Garris and Shane Campbell, filed statements of candidacy.
In the race, Garris received 34 votes and Campbell received 32 votes.
During the commission’s certification of the results on Nov. 7, commission members examined the 53 write-in ballots cast by Smoaks voters and determined the two other council posts would be filled by Jimmy Avant, who received 18 write-in votes, and Sheila Lydon, who received 15 write-in votes.
Lydon had joined incumbent council members Jeremy McMillan, Gene Varn and B. Addison Graham in deciding not to run for re-election.
